Impressive appearance: Bavaria's new Cruiser 51
The Cruiser 51 is Bavaria's second largest and interesting for owners as well as the charter market - flexible, of good quality and favourably priced

A new Bavaria. The pace set by the Giebelstadt shipyard almost makes you wonder: again? At second glance, however, the Bavarians always manage to do things better. Even though YACHT found almost no weaknesses in the predecessor in the test, the 51 Cruiser is yet another step forward. Even visually. The new deck structure makes the big boat look stretched out. Okay, that's hardly an art with a length of almost 15 metres. But the windows, which are now fitted more harmoniously into the hull, also contribute to the more coherent look on the outside.

Inside, the 51 manages the balancing act between the loft-like interior so often seen in yacht building and a nave-like interior. Bright and light and at the same time woody and cosy. This is pleasing, but as far as fabrics and woods are concerned, it is largely selectable. The exhibition ship therefore represents just one of many possibilities.

The interior in general: large open spaces ensure that even a crew of ten literally don't stand on each other's feet. At sea, purists will now say, people have such a long free path until they hit something in the swell. This is countered at the shipyard with handrails on the cabin roof. Incidentally, this is a full 2.11 metres above the saloon floor.

Cosy: The Bavaria's saloon is huge and the seating is ample. The table can be folded out to a full size

You won't feel claustrophobic in the cockpit either - there are comfortable dents and a large table. Speaking of halyards: They go aft together with the sheets to the helmsman. This allows the helmsman to go about his work in peace and quiet while the travellers in the lounge cockpit remain undisturbed. The large, folding bathing platform is not only practical when mooring aft, it also closes off the cockpit when extended so that the helmsman feels safe on the wheel even in rougher conditions.

The Bavaria Cruiser 51 is available from 257,516 euros. A lot of boat for the money. And on display in Hall 16, Stand B 38.
